Getting Started with your Module Sites: Common Issues

Once you have logged in to Blackboard, the homepage includes a navigation bar with a list of relevant tabs, to access modules you are studying in the current academic year, you will need to click the “My BB Sites” tab. Below are some common issues you may find with your module sites and easy solutions.

“I can’t find my site”

Blackboard is primarily set up to provide a site for every module, the sites are split into different sections within the “My BB Sites” tab. You will see a drop-down box at the top centre of the screen where you can select either: current sites, a previous academic year, or your school and programme specific sites.

If you think you are missing a module site, or are having problems accessing a site, please contact your module tutor who will pass the query on to curriculum support.

“What other types of site are there?”

While the main focus is on delivery of modules, there is a recognised need to communicate with students at broader levels. In order to allow as much flexibility as possible, sites have been automatically created for each level of a programme, and also at subject level. You may find that you do not have access to all of these sites as they will be made available to you by your tutors as required.

“What is a community site?”

A community site acts and looks the same as a module site, however these sites are set up on an ad-hoc basis usually to support enrichment opportunities and modules that are not formally part of your timetabled studies. As such you may find you have access to a number of community sites for different purposes e.g. study abroad placement, extra-curricular course, English language centre course etc.

Community sites can be accessed from the “My Communities” tab from the navigation menu on the left hand side.

“Where do I go for help?”

If you have an issue with using Blackboard to access your module sites or community sites, your first port of call should be your tutor. They may be able to support with any issues you are having and if they are unable to help you should contact the ICT service desk directly by emailing ict@lincoln.ac.uk.
